Microsoft Recall, an innovative form of AI-powered search that was previously known internally as AI Explorer, is scheduled to be included in Windows 11 (as well as probably future Windows editions). It will be able to record all of your computer activities, which you can then search with natural language. Put another way, you should be able to ask Recall, “Where did I save my report about the finance?” and it should be able to tell you, if you were writing a report about the finance and forgot where you saved it.

Recall helps you locate everything you’ve seen on your computer by utilizing Windows Copilot Runtime. Use the timeline to browse through your previous activity, including apps, documents, and webpages, or search using any hints you can still recall. Once you’ve located what you’re looking for, simply click the relaunch button to return to the information seen in the screenshot. You can continue where you left off because apps can offer deep links thanks to the UserActivity API.
It is important to know how Microsoft intends to protect Recall against attackers beyond “device encryption,” but they did not elaborate in their statement. In addition to addressing privacy issues, they have claimed that Recall will save its data locally on your computer. The main feature of Recall, though, which is its capacity to recall whatever you’ve done on your computer using natural language, is actually a serious security flaw.
However, the users are not impressed, rather, they are worried about their privacy and security.

The massively unfavorable response has very likely caught Microsoft authorities off guard. It won’t have for nearly everyone else.
On the surface, the ability to quickly search what you were working on a topic a month ago is fantastic if you’re a manager at a company with too much to do and not enough time.
In actuality, only a very small percentage of Windows users have the demands of that audience, and to be honest, discussing screenshotting things that people in the real world, not the executive world, need is akin to smacking customers in the face.
Seems like Microsoft has really shot at their feet!
Many Windows users merely use their computers to play games, watch videos, and go about their lives as flawed human beings who fail to learn from their mistakes and they don’t even bother to remember it. The thought that other people who have access to the device could view a photographic memory is, to many, extremely unsettling on a deeply personal level. Windows is an individual’s journey. This disproves that notion.
The way this has been put out and executed, I believe they are going to blow up the entire Copilot brand. In the name of AI, Microsoft is committing self-harm, and through that, actual customer harm is being translated.
However, Yusuf Mehdi, Corporate Vice President & Consumer Chief Marketing Officer, Microsoft said, “We’re going to keep your Recall index private and local and secure on just the device. We won’t use any of that information to train any AI model, and we put you completely in control with the ability to edit and delete anything that is captured.”
