When Is The PS6 Coming Out? Leaks, Features, Price, Everything You Need to Know…

Hello everyone. It’s your fellow gamer here, and today, I want to talk about the future. The PlayStation 5 has been an interesting console, and now that the PS5 Pro officially launched back on November 7, 2024, many of us have had a taste of what enhanced 4K gaming feels like. But even with this new power, the conversation in the gaming community is already shifting. We’re starting to ask: what’s next? When is the PS6 coming out and what does it have in store for us?

So, let’s go through the leaks and expert guesses to piece together what the PS6 might actually be.

When is the PS6 coming out?

This is the big one. The most common question everyone is asking is, When will the new PS6 be released? Sony hasn’t said a word, but now that the PS5 Pro is out, we can make a much more educated guess. The strongest evidence points to a release window between 2027 and 2028.

Personally, I’m putting my money on 2028. Sony has a clear pattern. They release a main console, and then about four years later, a “Pro” version follows. It’s a familiar playbook, right? The PS4 got a Pro, and so did the PS5. Sony likes to give these souped-up consoles a few years in the sun before rolling out the next generation. The PS5 Pro launched late 2024, so if history repeats itself, we’re looking at the PS6 in late 2027 or 2028.

This isn’t just a guess, either. Leaked court documents from Microsoft during its big Activision Blizzard purchase openly stated that they expect the next generation of consoles (including PlayStation) to launch around 2028. When your main competitor puts a date in official papers, it’s worth paying attention to.

PS6 Specs: What’s Inside the Console?

While it’s too early for a confirmed list of parts,PS6 leaks from reliable industry insiders have given us a pretty exciting picture of the PS6’s potential power. It’s clear Sony is aiming for a huge leap in performance.

  • Continued AMD Partnership: Sony is sticking with AMD for its core processing chips. This is great news, as it helps with backwards compatibility and builds on existing technology.
  • A New CPU Brain: The rumor is it’ll be packing a CPU with AMD’s Zen 6 architecture. What that actually means for us is that the console’s brain will be ridiculously fast. Say goodbye to loading screens, and hello to bigger, more reactive worlds and enemies that are actually smart.
  • Next-Generation Graphics: The leaks suggest an RDNA 5-based GPU will be handling the visuals. Forget the technical name – just know that this thing is supposed to make games look insanely realistic. Think ray tracing that makes light and reflections look just like real life, all while keeping the gameplay silky smooth at high frame rates.
  • Smarter Gaming with AI: This is where things get really interesting. The PS6 isn’t just about more raw power; it’s about working smarter. It’s expected to have dedicated AI chips that will do some heavy lifting. Imagine the PS5 Pro’s upscaling but on a whole new level, making games look crisp and run smooth so developers can go wild with the graphics without worrying about tanking your framerate.

PS6 Features: What to Expect

Beyond raw power, what new experiences will the PS6 offer? Again, based on leaks and Sony’s recent moves, we have a few ideas. First, full backwards compatibility with both PS5 and PS4 games is almost guaranteed. Sony knows how important our game libraries are.

But the most exciting rumor is a return to the handheld market with a device codenamed “Canis.”

Unlike the PlayStation Portal, which only streams games from your PS5, this is rumored to be a powerful, standalone handheld console, much like a Nintendo Switch or Steam Deck. It would be designed to play its own games natively, possibly including versions of PS5 and PS6 titles. This would allow us to take the PlayStation experience anywhere and would be a massive move for Sony.

Price and Design

Let’s talk about cost. With this level of technology, you should expect the PS6 to be expensive. Most analysts predict a launch price of $600 or $700. New boy-toy tech sure does cost a lot. (But better than an iPhone!)

As for the PS6 design, nobody knows what it will look like. The PS5 has a very bold and large design. Personally, I’m hoping Sony goes for something a bit sleeker and more compact this time around, but we will have to wait and see.

A Gamer’s Perspective: Do We Need a PS6 Yet?

I want to end with a personal thought. As exciting as all this is, a part of me feels that we haven’t even seen the best of the PS5 generation. Many of the games we’ve played have been cross-gen, also available on the PS4. Now that the PS5 Pro is here, I want to see games that truly push that hardware to its limits.

Before we move on to the PS6, I want to see more games built from the ground up exclusively for the PS5 era. A game like the upcoming GTA 6 is a perfect example—it’s going to be a title that defines the absolute maximum potential of the current consoles. Let’s see developers master the PS5 and PS5 Pro first. Let’s finally get those mind-blowing, ‘only on PS5’ experiences we were promised before we all move on.

So are you saving up for a PS6 already, or are you still waiting for the PS5 to really show us what it can do?

Until next time, fellow gamers! Ciao!
