As a Jujutsu Kaisen fan, you probably got a shock from Chapter 236. It was wild to say the least! The all-powerful Gojo Satoru, the iconic blindfolded hero balancing between jujutsu sorcerers and cursed spirits, vanished. He got locked up in a special hidden world. People suddenly started asking is Gojo dead? Gojo’s sudden departure left a significant gap in the story and raised many questions for us, readers. But, never fear, fellow Jujustu fans! We’re on a mission to explore what happened to Gojo and find a hint of hope for his comeback!
Who Killed Gojo Satoru? (in chapter 236, Spoiler WARNING!)
After Kenjaku carefully plans to capture Gojo and succeeds in the process (Chapter 90), everybody thinks is Gojo dead? But after Hana Kurusu got Gojo out of the prison realm after three years, a major fight starts off in Chapter 236 between Gojo and Sukuna, the Curse King.
Despite being a tough opponent, Sukuna faces difficulties against Gojo’s unbeatable power, “Limitless.” This power gives Gojo exceptional skills like lightning-fast speed and an infinite shield that deflects every attack.
Sukuna, though, isn’t one to back down. He studies Gojo’s power and comes up with a clever strategy. By choosing the right moves, Sukuna finds and uses a gap in Gojo’s Infinity. Armed with a mighty curse-filled strike, Sukuna breaks Gojo’s defenses and inflicts a serious wound.
Remember that Gojo survives this fight. But Kenjaku takes advantage of his weak moment to trigger a unique prison realm, trapping Gojo before he can heal. So, although Sukuna’s assault set the stage for Gojo’s capture, it wasn’t a direct “kill”.
The Mangaka is Famous for Killing Fan Favourites
The simple truth, Gege Akutami, Jujutsu Kaisen’s maker, has no problem pulling at our emotions. He or she (it is still a mystery, as far as I know) is famous for powerful arcs that end in unexpected or even sad ways. Remember Nanami Kento’s and Nobara Kugisaki’s upsetting deaths? They became characters we loved, and then suddenly, they were gone, surprising and affecting us deeply. Akutami’s willingness to test his readers and take risks is his/her signature.
When Gojo got trapped, fans felt worried. Given Akutami’s past, everyone asked: “Is Gojo dead for real? Or his troubles are temporary?’ We’ll discuss this big question soon!
