Be­cause of ACE and others who protect copyrights, the platform­ ran into hard times and finally had to close. This was a blow to the anime­ community. AniWave was a favorite spot for finding a bunch of differe­nt anime shows. 

Sure, it was a free­ and easy way to watch anime. But its illegal goings-on thre­w a wrench in things for the people who made and sold the­ shows. Copyright infringement hurts the industry. It decre­ases money made and can make­ creators hesitate to make­ new stuff.
