Her death is a big shock for everyone and her legacy will be remembered for ages. Let’s know more about her.Â
RIP Shelley!!
Early Life And Starting Career
Shelley Duvall was born in Fort Worth and didn’t have a normal regular journey to Hollywood. She found her love for acting at a community college in Texas where she wasn’t much attracted to the glamour of Los Angeles. She met director Robert Altman, who is known for working with a group of actors and using a lot of improvisation where this meeting changed her life because Altman chose her for his movie ‘Brewster McCloud’ in 1970 which was the start of a successful working relationship.
Duvall was really good at playing interesting and unusual characters and Altman liked that about him. She acted in many of his movies like Thieves Like Us (1974) and Nashville (1975) where she won a Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actress for her role in the latter. This praise made Duvall a popular actor in the American New Wave cinema movement.
The Character of Wendy Torrence
She played the character of a young mother who gets stuck in a lonely hotel with her husband Jack and their son Danny. Jack Nicholson played Jack in the movie. As the bad influence of the Overlook Hotel starts to control Jack, Wendy feels more and more alone and scared. Duvall did a great job showing how Wendy slowly started to lose her mind. She also showed how Wendy was both fragile and strong which kept the audience interested.
She was already a known actress back then but her role in The Shining made her famous worldwide. Steven King, the author of the novel which was on the movie based, didn’t like how Wendy was shown in the movie. Even though the script wasn’t that great but she gave hundred percent to the character.Â
